Gordon Saussy papers, 1864-1930.

This collection consists of a letter and a certificate to Gordon Saussy, as well as a stock certificate addressed to a Saussy family member. The stock certificate, for M.G. Saussy, is for five shares in the Macon & Western Railroad Company and is dated 1864. The letter, from George Nowlan Saussy to Gordon Saussy, 1913, encloses a copy of "An Incident of the Early Sixties," copied from an 1863 edition of the Richmond Examiner; it regards Lt. Saussy of the Jeff. Davis Legion with the Army of Northern Virginia. The certificate given to Saussy, dated 1930, is in Polish. This certificate is in a tube outside of the collection folder.

Gordon Saussy (1874-1952) was born in Savannah, Georgia. He attended local public schools and the college of the City of New York. He received his law degree at Cornell University. He was Mayor of Savannah from 1929 until January, 1931, when he resigned the office to run for that of County Ordinary. He held that office until his death. Previous to his election as Mayor he served in the General Assembly of Georgia and was author of the act that created the Savannah Port Authority in 1925. ...
